The event, which runs 3 nights, is the main fundraiser for two of the Town of Braintree elementary schools. Staffed entirely by parents and volunteers, the Braintree Haunted House welcomes visitors from throughout the South Shore.This year's theme is "Haunted Hotel"...check-in for a night of fright! The “Not So Scary” Haunted House designed for younger children will be held on Thursday Oct. 22nd from 6-8 p.m. and is done with the 'fright factor' dialed back for younger children: this night is a toned down version of the haunted house, with the lights on and actors dressed without scary makeup or masks. The 'Regular' Haunted House, with lights off and participants in full makeup, will take place on Friday Oct. 23 and Saturday Oct. 24 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights may not be suitable for small children. Braintree’s Haunted House is a non-profit charity fundraiser; all proceeds go directly to the students at the Liberty and Highlands Schools. Insider tips:

• Daycare: On all three nights babysitting and day care is available within the facility in a secure room with games, entertainment, and supervision. You can bring your little ones any day and be confident that the whole family can enjoy the evening as this is staffed by parents who will watch those children not quite ready to venture into this haunted maze of horrors.
• Parking: There is ample parking (spots for over 500 vehicles), however arrive early to beat the crowds as this is a very popular event.
• Concession stand: popcorn, frozen slush, hot dogs, pizza, baked goods, drinks, and more are available for sale as well at reasonable prices.
• Purchase tickets in advance, online and skip to the front of the line!
• Cash only at the door. Credit card with online, advance purchase. **There is a $0.99 per ticket transaction fee for online sales only.

Nanci's is a fantastic neighborhood barber shop that's been open in Braintree for over 20 years. it was formerly located in the South Shore Plaza, but has been at its current Washington St. locale for many years. While appointments with Nancy herself tend to book up well in advance to an extensive list of loyal clients, there are many talented barbers here and all of them can provide a first rate cut or hot shave at a bargain price. Open late on Monday nights during football season for MNF.

Located just outside South Braintree Square, Viola Restaurant features Italian cuisine, including seafood, chicken, veal, and pasta dishes, as well as pizza. Small and intimate. A few tables outside. Prices are reasonable, with most items being under $15.00. Southern Italian specialties: pork chops with vinegar peppe, seafood fra diavlo, chicken al verdicchio, veal picatta, gnocchi, and arugula pizza. They also offer a variety of soups and salads, and they have a children's menu. Located where Cafe 1209 used to be.

Joe's American Bar & Grill located at South Shore Plaza is a nice place to stop by for a drink, lunch or dinner.

A location of a chain of family-oriented steakhouses, known for their Canadian theme and talking moose. Burgers, steaks, salmon and a really good chicken salad. Named for a mountain range in the Canadian Rockies, this restaurant's interior has the atmosphere of a rustic hunting lodge. Talking animal heads provide side-show entertainment, but the primary attraction is the steak: prime cuts of sirloin, T-Bone, ribeye and prime rib. The kids' menu includes complimentary ice cream for dessert. ^[1]

Established in l967, Jamie's Pub has been in operation for over thirty years. Jamie's offers the high quality food served in large portions at affordable prices. Great value. "Neighborhood Bar" atmosphere. Former location of Caps for those that remember Caps.

Standard McDonald's, located right in South Braintree Square. Renovated a couple years ago but has been in this location forever. Small parking lot. Drive-through window as well.

This Legal Seafood's, located in the South Shore plaza, is right off of the "Braintree Split", where Route 3 splits southward towards Cape Cod, and is a very convenient stop off on your way to a beach weekend. Like all Legals, they serve a very high quality grade of seafood, and their signature delicious chowder. The menu is divided amongst legal classics, and more modern offerings like stuffed lobsters and king crab ceviche. Most of the food is good quality, fresh ingredient based, and simply prepared. The atmosphere at this locale is generally boisterous; it's a cery good sized restaurant with a large bar and very good service.
